Community Program
Pre-Dance Level- Age: 3, 4 & 5
Description: A creative movement class (a precursor to basic ballet terminology and movement).
Pre-Ballet Level- Age: 6, 7 & 8
Description: A ballet preparation class (emphasis on creative movement & etiquette).
Ballet Level
Age: 9-12
Ballet Technique class and two additional disciplines*.
Age: 13-17
Ballet technique class and two additional disciplines*.
Boys - Age: 7-17
Boy’s ballet technique & boy’s gymnastics.
*=disciplines may consist of any of the following: Modern, Tap, Jazz.
Pre-Professional Program
Beginner – Age 7 – 11
Ballet Technique, Modern + 1 other, Workshop
Intermediate – 8 -13
Ballet Technique, Pointe, Ballroom, Modern, Workshop
Advanced – Age 14 – 18
Ballet Technique, Pointe, Ballroom, Choreography, Modern, Workshop
Level 1 – Professional Training – 18- 23
Ballet Technique, Men’s’ Technique
Level 2 – Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble – 18-23
Pointe, Pas De Deux
Level 3 – Dance Theatre of Harlem Fellow Program 18-23
Rehearsal/Choreography, Pedagogy, Academics: Dance History, Music History, Anatomy
SUMMER Intensive
• Six weeks in an unparalleled dance environment with some of the best teachers and coaches in the world
• Train with luminaries like Arthur Mitchell, Homer Bryant, Lorraine Graves , Mary Hinkson, Kabby Mitchell and Virginia Johnson, as part of DTH’s Masters & Mentors Series
• Attend Broadway shows and visit some of the best museums and galleries in the world
• Participate in a culminating performance at DTH’s Harlem Week Presentation
• Awards Presentation where Summer Intensive Participants wiil receive a Certificate of Completion.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum three (3) years classical ballet training
• Males & Females ages 8-24
• Audition Fee: $15.00
• Arrive 30 minutes prior to audition
• Pointe shoes required for intermediate and advanced levels
• Intermediate & advanced levels, bring resume and full-body shot
• Placement results are mailed within three weeks of auditions
SCHOLARSHIPS
• DTH will offer a very limited number of Housing Scholarships for the 2009 Summer Intensive
• A limited number of full and partial scholarships are provided based on merit.
SUMMER HOUSING
• Supervised accommodations available for students ages 13-17
• Extra curricular activities for evenings and weekends are planned by DTHS and chaperoned
• Unsupervised housing available for students 18 years and older

PHYSICAL THERAPY
On-site treatment and referrals are provided by physical therapists from the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries.
