renee bharath Born in Trinidad, West Indies, Renee was raised in Brooklyn, New York where she began her dance training at the age of three at the Dance Theatre of Harlem School. Through her continuous education at The DTH School, and following her high school graduation in 2001, she was thrilled to join the Dancing Through Barriers (DTB) Ensemble. Through her work with the DTB Ensemble, Ms. Bharath has performed in the Bermuda Festival in 2004 and the Kennedy Center for the Protégé Festival in 2006. Most notably, she was honored to dance the DTH staple ballet The Greatest, choreographed by Arthur Mitchell at the White House in 2006. Renee is ecstatic to welcome another year of success with the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble and continue to contribute to the legacy of Dance Theatre of Harlem.
Dajuan Booker Originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, Dajuan Booker started dancing at the age of 15 received ballet training at the Academy of Ballet Arts and Pinellas County Center for
the Arts at Gibbs High School .He has attended The Rock School Summer Intensive Program and was awarded full scholarships to attend the Harid Conservatory ,Alvin Ailey and Dance Theatre of
Harlem. In 2003, he won first place at the Youth America Grand Prix. He has performed with Dance Theatre of Harlem's Dancing Through Barriers® Ensemble since 2003.
fredrick davis Fredrick Davis' talent for dance was discovered at age 11, 1998,
DaVon Doane DaVon Doane was born in Salisbury Maryland. He began his dance training at the age of nine at the Salisbury Studio of Dance in Fruitland Maryland. There he performed with the Eastern Shore Ballet Theater under the Direction of Betty Webster, Tatijana Smith and Elena Manakhova where he performed roles in the Nutcracker, Coppelia, Sheherazade, The Polovetzian Dances, Snow White and Peter and the wolf. In the summer of 2004 he attended the Kirov academy in D.C. Also in the fall of 2004 he attended the Atlantic contemporary ballet theater as a full time academic and artistic student. In 2006 he joined the Atlantic City ballet and performed roles in the nutcracker, a Midsummer Nights Dream, Eclipse, and the Tchaikovsky pas de deux.
Flavia Garcia Flavia Garcia was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She trained and graduated from The National Ballet of Cuba. She participated in The International Ballet Competition at Jackson and Varna. She's danced with Cia Brasileira de Dancas, Joffrey Ballet 2, LazarBallet NYC and Participated in Gala of The Stars in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her repertoire includes Kitri in Don Quiote, Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Medora in Le Corsaire and Myrtha in Giselle, plus works by Elie Lazar and Igal Perry to name a few of many. She has danced with DTH Ensemble since 2006.
Alexandra Jacob Alexandra Jacob was born in Oakland, California and began her first formal ballet training at the age of eight at Berkeley City Ballet. In addition to her training at Berkeley City Ballet, Alexandra attended summer programs at the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alonzo King Lines Ballet on scholarships. Alexandra briefly attended the California College of Arts for three years for an architecture degree before returning to her passion for ballet. Upon returning to New York City in fall 2004, Alexandra attended the Joffrey Ballet School, until her return to the Dance Theatre of Harlem in January 2005. Alexandra currently dances in the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble.
christopher charles mcdaniel Christopher began his ballet training in 2001 at the age of ten with Laveen Naidu and Ronald Perry at here The Dance Theatre of Harlem School. In 2005 he enrolled into Fiorello H. LaGuardia H.S. As a dance major and studied with Cassandra Phifer, Joey Smith, Katherine Brikke, and Deborah Wingert. In 2006 Christopher joined Ballet Academy East, training as a scholarship student, with Darla Hoover, Peter Frame, Cheryl Yeager and Francis Patrelle. Christopher has attended Summer Intensives at the Boston Ballet and the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. This is his second season with the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble.
Ashley N. Murphy Murphy, 23, was born in Shreveport, LA, where she began her dance training at age 3. After graduating with honors in 2002, she attended the Dance Theatre of Harlem Summer Intensive Program where she auditioned for the Dancing Through Barriers® Ensemble and was accepted. After training for a year with the Ensemble, Ashley was asked to be an apprentice in the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company. This allowed her to tour to places such as London, England; Glasgow,Scotland; and Athens, Greece among many others. When the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company went on hiatus in 2004, Ashley decided to continue her dance training with the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble where she has been dancing since.
brandon burnett perry russell Brandon Perry-Russell is a native of Fort Worth, TX. He began his training late at the age of 17 at Dian West Dance Studio, Texas Ballet Theatre School and Debbie Allen Dance Academy. He continued his training at Southern Methodist University where he studied various dance techniques and acquired performing experience dancing a wide range of repertory. While attending SMU Brandon was awarded numerous scholarships to study dance all over the country, including such prestigious institutions as The Alvin Ailey School, Boston Ballet School, Kirov Academy and many more. Upon leaving SMU Mr. Perry-Russell moved to New York, to pursue his career in dance. He has performed with Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, Lydia Johnson Dance, Errol Grimes Dance Group, Nanette Bearden Contemporary Ballet, Balance Dance Theatre, and Subtle Changes Inc. and is a proud choreographer for Bad Boys of Dance. Brandon has been with Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble since 2005.
Gary Rawls Miami, FL native, Gary Rawls comes to Dance Theatre of Harlem in his first season as a member of the D.T.B Ensemble. He has trained at the Miami City Ballet, New World of School of the Arts, the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet, and the North Carolina Dance Theatre, where he was an apprentice. He’s attended summer intensives at Dance Theatre of Harlem, Atlanta Ballet, and North Carolina Dance Theatre all on full scholarship. He’s performed and been featured in works by Paul Taylor, Gerrard Ebitz, Peter London, Robert Garland, Mark Diamond, and Jean- Pierre Bonnefoux.
Lourdes Rodriguez Lourdes Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba. At the age of nine moved to Miami, Florida where she trained at the Miami Conservatory with Ruth Wiesen, Mariana Alvarez, Dominique Angel from the Joffrey Ballet, Maite Diz from the National Ballet of Cuba, and Arnold Quintane from the Paris Opera. Following graduation from Dr. Michael Krop Senior High, Lourdes attended New World School of the Arts College where she trained in Ballet, Horton, Graham, and Limon techniques. She has also studied at the North Carolina Dance Theatre under the direction of Jean- Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride and performed in George Balanchine’s “Raymonda Variations”, “Serenade”, and “Nutcracker”, as well as Mark Diamonds’s “Scherzo and “City South”.
ingrid silva Ingrid Silva began dancing at the age of 8 in Dançando para não Dançar, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Ingrid was a student apprentice in Company Grupo Corpo in Brazil. Ingrid joined Dance Theatre of Harlem Professional Training Program in January of 2008 and is now a member with Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble.
mayuko shoka Mayuko Shoka was born in Gifu Japan in 1986. She began to study ballet at the Ballet Studio K&M in Japan at the age of 7. While there, she performed in various ballets such as Cinderella, Nutcracker, Oliver Twist, and Swan Lake. To continue her studies she went on to The Arts Educational School in England at the age of 17. While there she had the chance to explore other art forms such as Contemporary, Tap, Modern, and Jazz as well as enhance her ballet training. At the age of 18 she was accepted into The Joffrey Ballet School in NY. While there she performed Arabian (Nutcracker),and Lilac Fairy (Sleeping Beauty). In 2005, at the age of 20, Mayuko was accepted into the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble.
elisa toro Elisa Toro was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She started training at Escuela de Ballet Miryam Guerrero, when she was 8 years old. At age 17, she received Mention of Honor at the 2004 International Competition for Ballet students, La Havana, Cuba. In September of 2004, she was accepted into the Miami City Ballet School, where she trained for three consecutive years in the advanced level. In September of 2007, she got a contract with the Washington Ballet Studio Company, where she performed several times next to the professional members of the Washington Ballet. Elisa joined Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble in July 2008.
shoko tamai Shoko Tamai was born in 1988 in Japan and trained at Yumi-classical ballet studio in Yamanashi-Ken. When she was 15 years old, she trained at the Central school of ballet in London. The third year, she performed and toured all around the UK with Ballet Central. Shoko joined Dance Theatre of Harlem Professional Training Program in July of 2008 and is now a member with Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble.
